We are not just a hair loss treatment clinic.
We see just as many clients with scalp conditions as hair
loss problems, in fact, not all Trichologists are equipped
to deal with the clinical treatment of flaky itchy scalp conditions
like scalp
eczema, scalp psoriasis and seborrhoetic dermatitis.
To read more about scalp conditions visit our scalp
problem page.
Scalp conditions require actual clinical scalp
treatment rather than just a special scalp shampoo or scalp
lotion to improve them. We have an excellent record of helping
clients with scalp conditions with our own unique methods
of scalp treatment which you can read about on our scalp
treatment page.
We Supply and Fit Ladies Wigs Too!
We expanded into this service in 2008 largely
through demand from our own Trichology clinic patients. Many
of our patients who needed wigs either temporarily or permanently
were unhappy with the service they received from local wig
consultants. We are able to offer a wig fitting and personalisation
following training under Trevor Sorbie's 'my
new hair' initiative. Our
clients visit us largely for medical purposes such as Alopecia
Areata and Totalis or while undergoing Chemotherapy treatment.
Although we supply both ready to wear and custom made ladies
wigs. Volumisers or/ hair pieces for ladies with thinning
hair are also extremely popular. You can read more about our
ladies wig service here .

Q. What causes loss of hair?
A. There are infinite reasons
for loss of hair. Acute sudden hair loss is likely to be caused
by something which happened around 2-3 months before its onset.
If hair thinning occurs gradually over a period of years it
is likely to be caused by problems such as Anaemia, Hypothyroidism,
poor diet, long term stress, medications, health issues or
genetic factors.
Q. Are the causes of hair loss for
women and men different?
A. There are differences
in loss of hair in women and men. Post menopausal women can
suffer a similar form of loss of hair as men known as female
pattern baldness but it is
usually slower than in men and less extensive. Younger women
are more likely to suffer Chronic
Telogen Effluvium a diffuse
loss of hair you can read about this on our hair loss in women
page. Hair
loss for men is usually a
genetic problem although a small number of men may also suffer
acute or Chronic.
Q. Do hair loss treatments work?
A. The honest answer would
be no! It depends on the cause of your hair loss problem,
the most important thing is to find out why your hair is falling
out before buying random expensive hair loss treatments in
the hope the something might just work. If you have a genetic
problem, hair loss vitamins won’t work for you just
as if you are losing hair due to nutritional deficiency, topical
hair loss treatments like Regain (minoxidil) won’t help.
Q. Do you treat patients of all ethnic
minorities?
A. Yes! 50% of the Trichologists
clinical observation training was spent at the Institute of
Trichologists original scalp and hair hospital in Brixton
where the clientele were predominately black. We are very
familiar with black and Asian scalp and hair problems and
have a lot of clients from ethnic minoritie who travel from
Birmingham and Coventry as we are the closest full time Trichologists. |
