Cognitive Behaviour Therapy
is proven through research to be highly effective for treating
a wide range of emotional disorders including depression,
anxiety, low self-esteem, panic attacks, phobias, relationship
and family problems, body image, obsessive compulsive disorder
and eating disorders. It is recommended by the NHS and NICE
(National Institute For Health & Clinical Excellence)
as the most effective approach in all its guidelines for treatment
of emotional disorders. Evidence shows that people treated
with Cognitive Behaviour Therapy improve rapidly and stay
problem free for longer periods of time.
We believe that what we think
(good or bad) affects our feelings and influences our behaviour.
So if our thoughts are negative, we feel worse and sometimes
find ourselves choosing unhelpful behaviours. Using Cognitive
Behaviour Therapy, I can help you learn about the causes of
your unhelpful thoughts and behaviours, examine the evidence
that supports or contradicts them, then help you learn and
practice alternative ways to cope with your problems.
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy
has been described as a “take away” therapy. You
will learn a series of strategies, tools and coping mechanisms
that you can use whenever the need arises. It’s based
on common sense and easy to use ideas. It helps you develop
better self-esteem and confidence, change patterns of negative
thinking which stop you from achieving your goals and gain
a clearer sense of direction.
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy
is a proactive therapy and does involve some work between
sessions. During sessions we will work together as a team
to explore and evaluate your problems and there will be some
exercises to do outside of sessions to help you develop the
skills you are learning. These are easy activities and might
involve something like keeping a mood or activity diary to
help you learn to link in your thoughts, feelings and behaviour.
What happens in CBT sessions?
Our first session would be
a thorough assessment of the problems or difficulties you
are facing and to see how best I can help you. This is the
most formal part. We will map out together a picture of the
problems you are facing and discuss how we will work with
those problems going forward.
Counselling sessions will
last fifty minutes. After an initial review, sessions will
be tailored to individual needs and requirements, including
content and number of sessions.
CBT Counselling Fees
A course of at least 6 sessions
of CBT is usually recommended. For more severe cases for example
of depression, anxiety or disorders such as phobias, OCD etc,
a course of 12-18 sessions would be more likely.
Cost per session is £45.00.
Payment in advance for six sessions would qualify for a reduction
in cost to £40.00 a session. I can offer discounts to
students and those over 60.
